Doctors Information

At NSAudiology, we collaborate closely with General Practitioners (GPs), Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialists, and other healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive audiological services. Our team ensures that all testing and rehabilitation meet the highest industry standards, providing your patients with the support they need to manage hearing loss effectively.

Referral Options

GP Referrals

All hearing tests (audiometry and tympanometry) referred by a GP are eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Services under the Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) are available, with Medicare item number 10952.
Please note that some private services, such as cerumen (ear wax) removal, do not attract a Medicare rebate.

ENT Referrals

  • We conduct all audiological testing as per ENT specialist requirements.
  • Most tests referred by an ENT are eligible for a Medicare rebate.
  • Vestibular testing is considered a private service and does not have a Medicare item number.

Partnering with Healthcare Professionals

Services for Pensioners

Eligible pensioners can access services through the Australian Government’s Hearing Services Program (HSP), which includes:

  • Comprehensive hearing assessments
  • Consultations
  • Provision of hearing aids (if applicable)
  • Ongoing rehabilitation services

These services are provided at no out-of-pocket expense to the patient

Hearing Loss & Health Correlations

Research indicates significant links between hearing loss and various health conditions:

  • Dementia: Individuals with hearing loss greater than 25 dB have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disorders.
  • Diabetes: Higher rates of hearing loss are observed in people with diabetes, potentially due to damage to the inner ear’s nerves and blood vessels.
  • Cancer Treatments: Certain treatments can lead to ototoxicity, increasing the risk of hearing loss and tinnitus.
  • Mental Health: Use of hearing aids is associated with reduced depression and improved overall well-being.
