We have a complete approach to diagnosing hearing and balance difficulties.

Hearing assessments, complex diagnostics, vestibular diagnostics and wax removal.

Adult hearing assessments are comprehensive tests that evaluate an individual’s ability to hear sounds at different frequencies and volumes. The results of the assessment can help diagnose any hearing loss or related conditions and provide recommendations for appropriate treatment or interventions.

If you are having a test for Vertigo Patient information can be found here here

Ear Wax Removal

Ear wax is health and normal and keeps your ear naturally clean, however, it can become a problem. When ear wax, or cerumen, does not work its way out of the ear it can build up and need to be manually removed.
NSAudiology uses dry mircro-suction and a curette to remove ear wax build up. Our facilities are up to the standards of Ear Nose and Throat specialists, our clinicians are fully qualified to safely and effectively remove ear wax.
Hearing aid users have a particular problem with ear wax. Hearing aids can block the normal migration of earwax out of the ear. Because of this it is really important Hearing aids users have their ears checked regularly for any ear wax.

Hearing Assessments and OAE

A complete hearing assessment is actually a battery of tests. We will test your hearing using pure tone Audiometry. But it doesn't end there, we will also check the mobility of your ear drum with tympanometry, your speech discrimination, and an extended Audiogram for those suffering with tinnitus. If required, or requested by your medical practitioner, an otoacoustic emission (OAE) is a low-level sound emitted by the cochlea either spontaneously or evoked by an auditory stimulus. Specifically, OAEs provide information related to the function of the outer hair cells (OHC).

Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR / BERA) and Cortical Evoked Response (CERA)

Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR / BERA) is a diagnostic electrophysiological test used to rule out the incidence of a retro-cochlear pathology. CERA (Cortical Evoked Response Audiometry) is an electrophysiological test of hearing which is often used to confirm results gained from behavioural testing as it does not rely on client response. ASSR (Auditory Steady State Response) is an electrophysiological test of hearing used to determine thresholds without the need for client response.

Electrocochleography

ECochG (Electrocochleography) test is an objective measure of the electrical potentials generated in the inner ear as a result of sound stimulation. This test is most often used to determine if the inner ear (cochlea) has an excessive amount of fluid pressure

Calorics

Caloric Testing is often performed in conjunction with VNG testing, and is usually conducted on patients experiencing vertigo, loss of balance or dizziness. This test indicates pathology of the semicircular canals and can indicate the site of a lesion. As part of this test battery test the dix hallpike test and epley maneuver may also be performed. Videonystagmography/ Electronystagmography

VNG/ENG (Videonystagmography/Electronystagmography) is a test of balance function. This diagnostic test procedure is used to examine a portion of the organ of balance, the semi circular canals which are located in the inner ear.

Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials

VEMPS (Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials) is an electrophysiological test conducted to help identify the area of pathology in cases of vestibular disturbance. This test can be used as part of the diagnosis of Meniere's Disease.
